Jersey City's West Side is beginning an exciting new chapter of economic development that will include Bayfront, a vibrant transit-oriented community located on the eastern shore of the Hackensack River.

Bayfront is the result of an historic agreement between the City of Jersey City and Honeywell. The plan, which was supported unanimously by the City Council in 2008, will transform 95 acres of former industrial properties into new housing, office, and retail uses. It also incorporates public waterfront access, plentiful open space, job opportunities, and access to mass transit.

Bayfront builds on the work of hundreds of Jersey City community members, business owners, academics, residents, and elected officials who, together with award winning urban designer Tony Nelessen, created a viable, integrated mixed-use vision for Jersey City's West Side.

The plan includes:

  • More than 20 acres of open space, including two new parks
  • A half-mile of public walkway along the Hackensack River
  • Access to mass transit (Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Extension)
  • New affordable housing opportunities and pedestrian shopping
  • Pedestrian and bicycle network
  • New commercial, economic, and job creation growth
  • Sustainable green architecture and energy-efficient buildings

When Bayfront is completed, it will join existing west side development projects like Droyers Point and Society Hill as well as ones currently under development, including New Jersey City University's West Campus located directly across Route 440 from Bayfront.

We are committed to the hard work ahead that is necessary for the plan's success and pledge to work closely with the community over the long term to unlock the redevelopment of the city's west side.‚Äč
